Things to Do
Because you can't spend your whole trip relaxing back at the lodge.
So Much to Do, So Little Time
As lovely as our lodges are, there’s so much going on in Cumbria that it would be a crime to miss out! Here are just a few activities that you could take part in while you’re with us.
Explore Lake Windermere…
What would a trip to The Lakes be without exploring the region’s largest body of water, Lake Windermere. It can be enjoyed many places, but if you head to Bowness, you’ll be able to jump aboard a boat trip for the ultimate in scenic travel.
…With Some Wild Swimming
Wild swimming the The Lake District is truly one of the most rejuvenating experiences you can have. Swim the Lakes offers a variety of courses for beginners and veterans alike, including guided swims, adventure swim breaks and wetsuit try-on events.
Visit William Wordsworth’s Home…
For any English Literature fans, you can’t go to Grasmere without seeing Wordsworth’s first Lake District home. Packed to the rafters with many of the poet’s actual possessions, perhaps you’ll be inspired to compost something of your own.
…Or Beatrix Potter’s!
If poetry isn’t really your thing, perhaps Beatrix Potter’s house will conjure up something a little more nostalgic. This farmhouse was where many of your favourite stories were born, and you may even recognise some of its features from her illustrations.
Brockhole is home to the fantastic Adventure Playground, sure to keep the whole family entertained with its rope walks, slides, swings and zip wires. Picnic areas are situated in over 30 acres of gardens leading down to the lake shore, including Birkett Wood.
Enjoy a Navigation Course
Head to the Hills runs a series of navigation courses in The Lakes that help you have a great day out, explore new areas and stay safe while you’re doing it. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to improve, Head to the Hills will help you get where you’re going.

The lodge was lovely!! Well decorated, comfortable, homely, inviting & in a stunning area of tranquility which was far enough from the tourist spots to feel secluded but close enough for convenience. Tony was extremely kind in allowing us to stay on different days than normally scheduled as it was a special occasion and we were very grateful for his generosity in doing so. After the expectations of the lodge and location exceeded our expectations we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to friends and family for a holiday and have already done so since returning. We didn’t get to use the hot tub as often as hoped but after a 20 minute minute soak I was glad we had it available. The locals are friendly and quite honestly we would have been happy if we spent all of our time in the lodge as it was so nice to be away from London and just hear the sheep and birds instead of cars and traffic! Thank you Tony, we will certainly consider coming again.
I will definitely be booking this again, I had regular contact with the owner who made the process very easy too.
The lodge was very spacious and well turned out and even had walk-in wardrobes too! It had every mod-con you could think of and it was those little extras that really made it a home from home.
My family and I have just returned from a weekend break at this lodge and it did not disappoint. The photos are a real picture of what it is like and even in the cold weather the hot tub was a welcome bonus!
My mum and I had such a lovely time. The chalet was very well kitted out and comfortable. Amazing setting, beautiful scenery and we were so lucky with the weather. It was great we could take our dog, who also had a lovely time. I can’t recommend it highly enough and Tony was so accommodating, as we had to cancel last minute last year due to personal unforeseen circumstances. He is a true gentleman!
